After a somewhat relaxing summer speckled with presentations and events, we are ready to start the fall school year off with a blast! We are hoping that the beginning of the school year this month brings many more presentations to the youth of Palm Beach County. We have begun scheduling presentations for September thru December and hope to fill up those months soon with more school, church and club presentations! Stay tuned!

Faces of Homelessness Story Teller's Speakers' Bureau
Hey all! Welcome to the Palm Beach County "Faces of Homelessness" Speakers' Bureau blog. More easily known as the Story Tellers' blog. I'm Amanda, the new Americorps*VISTA at the Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County. For the year I will be coordinating and running a program called the Faces of Homelessness Story Tellers' Speakers Bureau, quite a mouthful huh? For simplistic's sake, from now on I'll refer to it as the Story Tellers' program as often as possible. The Story Tellers Speakers' Bureau is a branch of the National Coalition for the Homeless's "Faces of Homelessness Speakers' Bureau".
The mission of the Speakers' Bureau is to provide a forum for homeless and formerly homeless individuals to share their personal stories with others; to show who becomes homeless and why; to foster a greater awareness of the reality of not having a home in America; break down the myths/stereotypes of the homeless; and to spark interest in becoming involved in the struggle to end homelessness on both a local and national level.
That's pretty much the shortened version of what we do as Story Tellers! I have created this blog as a way for supporters to follow what we as a program are doing throughout the year. I will be keeping it updated as much as possible with the best stories possible (nobody likes a boring blog right?). Here's a quick update for everyone: the Story Tellers' may be a new program in Palm Beach County but I have already recruited 15 potential speakers from just one location! I am hoping this great outcome of speakers occurs at all the places I visit to recruit. Also, we have applied for a Do Something grant in order to kick off our program's financial needs since we have no real funding or budget, here's hoping we get it!
So please, follow the Story Tellers' journey this year here on this blog and if you are interested in being on the panel, donating to the program or having the Story Tellers' speak at an event, feel free to contact me at anstjean@yahoo.com or 561.478.5351. Be sure to keep coming back to the blgo as I will post as much as possible on what's going on for us! Thanks all!
